A kitchen remodel starts before any cabinet is chosen. It starts with how the room is actually used, where the sink and range need to sit relative to each other, and whether the existing electrical panel can support the circuits a modern kitchen needs. Once that layout is set, demo comes first, then any wall changes, then rough plumbing and electrical, then drywall, then cabinets, then countertop templating, then the countertop install, then backsplash, then final trim and fixtures.
A lot of Pittsburgh kitchens sit inside homes built well before anyone thought about dishwashers or double ovens. That means original framing that is not always square, plaster walls instead of drywall, and knob and tube wiring in some Ross Township and Mount Lebanon houses that has to be identified and dealt with before a single cabinet goes up. Skip that step and you get cabinets that do not sit flush, outlets on the wrong circuit, or a range hood with nowhere to vent.
Ask what is behind your walls before demo starts, ask how many dedicated circuits the plan includes, and ask whether cabinet boxes are plywood or particleboard. That last one matters more than the door style.
How it runs
- Layout and design Measurements, appliance placement, and a plan for how plumbing and electrical need to move.
- Demo Old cabinets, countertops, and any flooring or drywall coming out are removed and the space is checked for what is actually behind the walls.
- Rough in Plumbing lines, electrical circuits, and any structural changes are completed before walls close back up.
- Cabinets and countertops Cabinets are set level and secured, then countertops are templated and installed once boxes are in place.
- Finish work Backsplash, trim, hardware, and fixtures go in last, followed by a final walkthrough.
